International Conference | Memory Policies in a Global World: Promoting Collective Memory Across Contexts

On 17 and 18 September 2026, the Department will host the International Conference Memory Policies in a Global World: Promoting Collective Memory Across Contexts.

The event will bring together scholars from universities and research institutions across Europe and beyond to explore the role of memory policies in shaping collective identities and interpreting contemporary conflicts and social transformations.

The conference will open on Thursday, 17 September at 2:30 PM with welcoming remarks by Matteo Bassoli and Luca Bravi.

This will be followed by a keynote lecture by Aline Sierp on the relationship between memory and emotions in Russia’s war on Ukraine, organised within the VIRUS project.

The three conference sessions will examine memory policies from a global perspective, the role of the actors involved, and recent developments in empirical research.
