Content
IPSe – International Politics and Security School originates in the MA Program in European and Global Studies, held by the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies of the University of Padua. IPSe addresses the main changes in International Politics & Security, thanks to an historical and integrated approach: it relies on a network of 20 European Universities, involving worldwide well-known experts that study this phenomenon from a multidisciplinary perspective. From history to political science, from sociology to economy and international relations, IPSe offers a unique opportunity to learn the most relevant scientific developments in this area of knowledge. IPSE is open to MA and PhD students, and early postdoctoral students who have a specific interest in these topics.

Each year hundreds of students apply for the event and the best ones are selected to participate in the event. Previous editions gathered applications from universities like St.Andrews – United Kingdom, Moscow State University – Russia, Université de Paris – France, Université de Fribourg - Switzerland, Central European University - Austria, Università di Milano – Italy, Università degli Studi di Padova – Italy, Università di Roma 1 La Sapienza – Italy, Università Macerata – Italy, Università di Pisa – Italy, Università di Torino – Italy, La Scuola Universitaria Taranto – Italy, Tallin University – Estonia, SNSPA – Romania, Tbilisi University – Georgia, University Skopje – North Macedonia, University of Hyderabad – India, University of Istanbul – Turkey, UNAM – Mexico, Università Al Qalam Katsina – Nigeria, University of Punjab – Pakistan, MANAS University - Kyrgyzstan.

The first edition (May 27-30, 2020) was dedicated to the analysis of the terrorist threats and security politics and it gathered 30 international students and 22 speakers.

The Second edition (24th-28th of May 2021) was dedicated to the concept of crisis and it gathered 40 international students and 33 speakers.

The third edition (27 April, 11-14 May 2022) was dedicated to the changing nature of conflicts and the role of diplomacy in the new international order and it gathered 30 international students, 35 speakers, other 300 participants in presence and 200 online and the live streamed sessions were followed by 1600 persons in the first week. Nonetheless, the project obtained the European Parliament’s Patronage and a co-sponsorship from NATO Public Diplomacy Division.

During the workshops the participants will be guided to perform archive analysis, achieving therefore new skills like teamwork, creative thinking, problem-solving. They will receive real archive documents on specific case studies (terrorist attacks) and will elaborate research papers. By means of this project, the partnering universities want to contribute to the training of future leaders in political science-international relations by disseminating information on conflict management, terrorism, NATO’s contribution to counter these threats, as an educated, aware and resilient young generation represents a precondition for a secure future.

Participants' background
Admissions are reserved to MA, PhD students and early postdoctoral students with the following background: European Studies, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, Law, Economics, History of International Relations, Contemporary History and open to other disciplines. A good level of English is needed (B2). Students coming from partner universities are selected and nominated by partner universities. UNIPD and external students are selected by the University of Padua. All students are asked to upload a CV and a motivation letter when applying.

Workload and credits
The Fall School which is to be held in English, consists of 6 hours/day of activities (keynote speech, debates, seminars). The Teaching Methodology consists of: seminars, traditional classes, workshops; final project (optional).

The event will be held in Padua, Italy.

Junior Conference
The goal of the Junior Conference is to provide a setting for PhD and MA students to present their work and receive feedback on their doctoral/MA research plan and progress. Students will be offered the opportunity to articulate and discuss their problem statement, goals, methods, and results. The event also aims at providing students with guidance on various aspects of their research from established researchers and the other students participating in the sessions. Finally, the event seeks to motivate students in the development of their scientific curiosity and facilitate their networking within the research community. Admissions are reserved to MA and PhD students and early postdoctoral students with the following background: European Studies, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, Law, Economics, History of International Relations, Contemporary History and open to other disciplines.
