On 15 May 2026, the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies hosts the workshop Democracies and Democratic Backsliding: Conceptual, Theoretical and Empirical Challenges.

The event brought together scholars from several European universities and research institutions to discuss current challenges facing democratic systems and the growing phenomenon of democratic backsliding across Europe.

The workshop provided an important opportunity for interdisciplinary dialogue on the state of democracy in Europe, encouraging exchange between scholars working on comparative politics, political sociology and democratic theory.
