Peacebuilding is the implementation of measures intended to create or sustain peace, especially in an area affected by conflict. It encompasses a range of practices, including fostering dialogue, rebuilding institutions, strengthening the rule of law, and addressing structural inequalities. This workshop introduces participants to the foundational concepts of peacebuilding, explores its critiques and challenges, and evaluates its implementation through case studies involving key international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the African Union (AU).
The workshop employs an interactive format, combining lectures and group discussions. Participants will critically engage with theoretical texts, analyse case studies, and explore the implications of peacebuilding policies on the ground. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a nuanced understanding of peacebuilding’s theoretical foundations, critiques, and real-world applications, equipping them with skills to engage in peace-related governance and human rights advocacy.
